Birthday, Parade, Rodeo, Church, Hospital

We had a busy busy weekend... It started off with Emery's birthday party. I can't believe my baby is THREE!! She has grown up so much in the past year and has definitely come out of her shyness. We love her so much and can't imagine life without her. She's our happy girl!!

If you can't tell, this girl is all about Cinderella! Hopefully she doesn't grow out of it anytime soon!

Emery makes me smile! :) And she really gets into playing games! Ha!

Thank you to Icing Smiles for providing her cake. And thank you to Melissa Randolph for making it. Emery was so excited to have a special Cinderella cake for her 3rd birthday!!

The 4th of July is my favorite holiday - especially if I get to celebrate it up in Oakley. There's something about growing up in a small town that I love! I love the 5:00am wake up call of loud explosions around town. I love the parade and patriotic program, where those who have fought for this great country is honored. I love the rodeo. And I love church in Oakley on the 4th of July weekend. There's nothing quite like it.

We took a little drive up past Mill Hollow during the day in between festivities. I love being out in nature.

Lilly had the special privilege of riding with Kenzi in the practice arena before the rodeo started. That was so fun for her. She is still talking about when she made the horse go FAST! (only trotting) Lilly and Kenzi have a special friendship and we are so grateful when we get to see her. Kenzi is going to school in Arizona to become a PA, so Lilly and Kenzi are pen pals and write to each other. It's much more fun when we get to see her in person! ;)

Kenzi sent Lilly a package in the mail with half of a friendship necklace in it, so it was fun for Lilly to see the two halves put together! We Love You Kenzi! Thank you for being Lilly's special friend!!!

The rodeo was fun. However, not too long after it started, we got rained on. We ended up going to the indoor arena to watch it on the big screen, but it wasn't the same... Oh well, there's always next year. And the next year... And the next!

We went back up to Oakley to church on Sunday. Lilly started to feel crummy. By the evening, we were in the ER because she spiked a fever. :(

Lilly HATES the ER! For whatever reason, they cannot access her port and it is so frustrating! When we first got there, I requested that they call a nurse from ICS upstairs to access her port. They didn't even bother calling and just said "Oh, they're too busy..." It's so aggravating as a mom to see Lilly have to go through such hard things when I know it could have been prevented. The first nurse missed. Lilly kept saying "ow" when she would try and flush the line. The saline was going into her tissue instead of her port. Her nurse got a second ER nurse to come try. She used to be an ICS nurse and she is the only nurse from the ER to ever successfully access Lilly. (She accessed her last time we had to come in) But, she missed too! Around Lilly's port was all swollen and puffy - I felt so bad. They finally called an ICS nurse down. She was so nice and felt so bad that Lilly was having a hard time. And guess what? Yep. She missed as well. It was too much! Then, they called the IV team and had to start an IV so Lilly could get labs and cultures drawn, plus get her antibiotic. What an ordeal! Lilly was so sad and kept saying "What's wrong with me?" She kept thinking it was her fault that the nurses couldn't access her. We kept trying to reassure Lilly that it wasn't her fault. She is strong and she is brave and she can do hard things! The next day Lilly was still fevering, but we were able to go up to clinic to get antibiotics instead of in the ER. Her favorite nurse Aubri accessed her first time, no problems. I don't get it. I think the ER nurses need to have an in-service or something to teach them how to successfully access ports. It's such a joke! Lilly is on the mend. Still a little under the weather, but no more fevers, which we are grateful for. Today (Thursday) we go back up to Primary's for an appointment with an orthopedic specialist. Lilly got the ok to walk on her foot, but it is still really bothering her. She would rather crawl around the house than walk. I'm sure today they will do xrays and hopefully set up some sort of physical therapy for her. Lilly can't wait to run again with her friends!

  1. So interesting post!! Your daughter is so cute. I feel so happy when I see kiddos like her. One of my friends hosted a huge party for his son’s first birthday at the prettiest party space rentals in Brooklyn. I saw his son for the first time in the party. He was also very cute. The party was really stunning.
